The Incredible Amount Of Money Avengers: Infinity War Could Make During Its Third Weekend

Like Thanos stepping out of a Space Stone portal, Avengers: Infinity War arrived in a big way and immediately made its presence known, smashing the seemingly insurmountable opening weekend record set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After its $258 million debut, the year's biggest film went on to have the second-best second weekend ever and became the fastest film to reach $1 billion worldwide. But Infinity War is far from done and it is poised to again cruise to success in its third weekend of release with an estimated box office of $50 million to $60 million.

This weekend's expected plunder of $50 million to $60 million will be enough to easily top the box office. This number would be a windfall for most films and even respectable for some blockbusters. In fact only one non-Marvel film has made $50 million in its opening weekend this year, John Kraskinski's A Quiet Place. Accruing that amount or more in its third weekend is incredible, and probably reflects a lot of repeat viewing. This will just continue to add to the movie's growing pot. Infinity War's box office currently sits at $472 million domestic and $754.9 internationally. Those foreign and domestic box offices are good for $1.2 million worldwide and a spot in the top 15 on the all-time list.

While this all seems incredibly impressive, Infinity War hasn't even been playing with a full deck yet. As Variety notes, the event film opens in China this weekend, where it is expected to do gangbusters. With that huge market opening up and plenty of runway left at box offices around the world, we are still a ways away from knowing just how many records will fall in Thanos' wake.

Topping the box office for the third weekend in a row will come as no surprise, considering that studios gave Infinity War a wide berth on the release calendar, knowing how all consuming it would be. But there are some other wide releases this weekend attempting to provide counter-programming or give audiences who have already seen Infinity War multiple times something else to check out. Life of the Party starring Melissa McCarthy debuts this weekend and is predicted to land somewhere in the $18 million to $21 million range. Also entering the fray this weekend is the Gabrielle Union movie Breaking In, which should earn between $14 million and $17 million.

While those contenders stand no chance against Infinity War, Thanos' reign at the top of the box office will almost certainly come to an end next weekend when Deadpool 2 arrives. The sequel to the 2016 smash hit has already received positive early reactions and could earn $150 million in its opening weekend. Still though, Infinity War will continue to break records adding to its box office domestically and abroad. The only question now is how high can it go?
