Why Flashpoint Batman Might Not Appear In The DCEU After All, According To Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Despite being moved off its original March 2018 release date, a Flash movie is still in the works for the DC Extended Universe, and last year at San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that this movie would be called Flashpoint, i.e. adapt the 2011 storyline of the same name. But a lot has changed behind the scenes with the Scarlet Speedster's standalone adventure since then, and while a Flashpoint movie possibly would have seen Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising Thomas Wayne, who is Batman in the Flashpoint reality, Morgan now believes that might not be the plan anymore, saying that this movie might be taking a more traditional approach to her hero. As Morgan put it:

When Zack Snyder was involved in the DC world more, I think that there was a real possibility. But now that he's kind of stepped away a little bit, I've heard different things, that Flashpoint might not be going in that direction, it will be more of an origin story for Flash.

We've already seen Ezra Miller's Barry Allen using his super speed in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League, so a possible flashback to the night that Barry was struck by lightning and gained his powers would be the only way the Flash movie would fall into the "origin story" category. That being said, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's comment to MTV suggests that rather than throw the Fastest Man Alive into a Flashpoint story, Warner Bros and DC are looking to tell a different story for the hero. As a result, while nothing is cemented yet, it sounds like the chances of Morgan reprising Thomas Wayne (following his cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) to put on his own Batsuit are slim at this point.

This isn't the first time we've heard that the Flash movie might not be Flashpoint anymore, and with Game Night directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein coming aboard to helm the project earlier this year, presumably a lot of elements about the movie are being reworked. The Flash movie has had quite the tumultuous development process ever since it was announced as part of the initial DCEU film slate in late 2014, including previously attached directors Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa both departing due to creative differences.

While no official plot details for the Flashpoint movie have ever been revealed, if it followed the storyline relatively closely, it would see Barry waking up in a radically different version of the main DC timeline, with the differences including Barry's mother still being alive, Thomas Wayne becoming Batman (as Bruce Wayne was the one killed that night in Crime Alley, which also led to Martha Wayne being driven insane and becoming The Joker), Wonder Woman and Aquaman being at war with one another and Superman being held captive by the U.S. government since infancy. Flashpoint also led directly into the New 52 reboot, which led to speculation that the Flashpoint movie might also bring its own reality changes.

As things stand now, all we know for certain about the Flash movie is that along with Ezra Miller reprising the eponymous hero, Kiersey Clemons and Billy Crudup are expected to appear as Iris West and Henry Allen, respectively. Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for any major updates concerning the project's development, and if you're interested in learning what else is in development for the DCEU, check out our handy guide.

After all, Thomas not only lost his son on that fateful evening but also his wife, Martha Wayne, who ends up becoming the Joker in the Flashpoint timeline. If Morgan does end up appearing as Batman in Flashpoint, then perhaps Lauren Cohan (who played Martha in BvS) will appear as the Joker as well, but we'll just have to wait and see.

There may be a host of "what-ifs?" surrounding Warner Bros.' Flashpoint, but one thing is for certain: Jeffrey Dean Morgan would love to play Batman in the film. When the studio announced last summer that its planned Flash solo movie had been renamed Flashpoint, speculation soon turned to whether Morgan might reprise his role as Bruce Wayne's father Thomas Wayne from 2016's Batman v Superman

DCEU going with Flashpoint story for The Flash (2018) movie

Sadly, all people know about Batman is how his parents died. Furthermore, the Batman in the DCEU is different to the one in TDK trilogy, meaning his parents raised him slightly differently. Thomas Wayne from BB is a very calm and logical person, while the Thomas Wayne in BvS is headstrong and confident.

FLASHPOINT features all of the Justice League members that will be in the upcoming DCEU film, but it is 100% Barry Allen's story. It is a big event story, so it won't be rushed. If this is the version of FLASHPOINT we're getting, chances are we won't see the film for a few more years.
